Pair. and a Spare.

I have settled down. a little bit.  I have a boyfriend. The writer.  The way he asked me to “go steady” was really cute.. like he’s a really good guy.  Which I do like.

It was his birthday (also Halloween) and he was out drinking with his friends.. I was out drinking with my friends (and running amuck in NOLA since Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.. and P and I had been planning our costumes for a while now).. with plans to meet up later.  His friends eventually called it a night, and he came out to the other side of the city where we decided to drunkenly go for a swim in this bar’s heated pool (only in New Orleans).  So it was just me, P, and a bunch of gay couples.. drinking hot toddies and gearing up for our swim.  He showed up, and was game for the night.. so we all went skinny dipping (such is the rule in this bar/pool) in the pool and hot tub.  The night was gorgeous. And even though he got groped in the hot tub by one of the gays, The Writer didn’t make a scene (you know the kind.. the stereotypical “macho straight guy” response just to prove to everyone he’s straight..? obnoxious.).

We finally head home, drop P off, and go back to my place.. start making out, etc etc.  Then right before we get down to business, I’m sitting on top of him (ahem) and he starts going into making it official.. awkward and cute. “I know I should have asked you this a while ago.. and I really like you..” then the “will you be my girlfriend” thing.  It was so ridiculously sweet. and as much as I’m a boss bitch and trying to keep my wall up.. I’m a sucker for a cute guy who is sweet and sincere.

So I agreed. But still to take it slow.  I don’t want to date anyone else. I really like him.. even though there are some similarities with my ex, The Economist.. which is a little unsettling.. I’m taking it slow. And the best part is he respects the fact that grad school is a critical and time consuming part of my life.  All in all.. Ima say I win.
